National Center for Urban Education

Logo design

I wanted to keep to the roots of the National Center for Urban Education and how it started as separate “pipelines”. In order to achieve that, I referenced a pipe in my mark’s shape. I have the pipes forming an abstracted star shape in the middle to emphasize that it works as a central hub for the multiple cities the organization is a part of. Each section of the pipe reflects each of the pillars NCUE stands on. The pencil on the left represents teaching and learning. The arrow pointing upward represents advancement and also forms the shape of university pillars to represent the role colleges play in this organization. Finally, the other two pipes are buildings to represent the community aspect. The way the pipes intertwine together reflects the way communities, universities, and schools come together to form this organization. The dark red color I chose helps to emphasize the middle shape the pipes create when they form as well as subtlety points back to Illinois State. The mark’s shape and strong color allows it to still hold up well even when scaled down.
